The Terms and Conditions for the Tools from Japan online store.
At the present moment in time, all payments are handled by Paypal, which allows payment with a Paypal balance or by credit card. Please contact us if you wish to make other arrangements.
We ask that you allow us 2 weeks (14 days) to process your order. While we work very hard to make sure all orders are processed as quickly as possible, we cannot keep every single item we list in stock, all the time. Our size and scale do not allow it, although we try to keep the most popular products 'in stock' as often as is practical. Fortunately, as we are in Japan and everything we sell is made in Japan, our supply line is usually very short, and we can usually get anything listed in the store from our suppliers and shipped within the 2 weeks we ask for. In the case of being unable to meet this time, we will automatically upgrade/partial refund the shipping of your order.
Any duties, taxes or fees that may be applicable for you to take delivery of your order in your country are the responsibility of the recipient of the order. We are unable to calculate what these duties, fees or taxes may be, and we are not permitted to collect them from you. Also please understand that the stated value of the items in your parcel will be the actual cost of the items in your order. We cannot falsify this value for legal and (if applicable) insurance reasons.
All orders are shipped by the shipping method selected in the shopping cart. EMS includes full insurance and tracking, however SAL/Small Packet and Surface mail do not include insurance or tracking by default. Tracking is available by selecting the check box in the shopping cart provided, and please understand that this does cost extra, which we ask that you cover the additional cost of.
The shipping costs quoted and/or billed by the store's software are the actual shipping charges we must pay to Japan Post for shipping your order to you. International shipping is weight based, and every gram adds to the cost of shipping. We are fortunate that Japan Post's rates are very reasonable and that their service is fast and reliable, but the cost of international shipping is still weight based, and there is nothing we can do to change this. You are free to select any of the shipping methods we offer, and we reserve the right to upgrade the shipping method on your order at our own discretion.
On the subject of shipping, we may also 'break up' your order into multiple parts. This may be done so as to not exceed the weight limit of a particular shipping method or in order to protect the items of your order whilst in transit. We cannot predict with 100% accuracy how an order may be broken up, as it is estimated on a case by case basis. If you find that a parcel has arrived, but your order is not yet complete then the most likely explanation is that another parcel(s) is on it's way to complete your order. Please, be patient, it is very rare that a parcel goes missing without an explanation.
Our goals are to offer a wide range of high quality products at reasonable prices, to get them to you in a reasonable time frame and to have them arrive without incident and in perfect condition.
Also note that if you request us to have your order sent to a forwarding company in Japan then we MUST have a full, complete and accurate shipping address for that forwarder and once they take delivery of the item that anything that happens to your order is no longer our responsibility.
If for some reason you feel we have not met these goals, then by all means please let us know immediately.
Instructions and Warranties.
Tools from Japan is based in Kagawa, Japan and we sell only products that are made and marketed in Japan. As such, few if any products will have packaging or instructions in English. If you have a particular problem with any product, please do not hesitate to contact us. Most of the products we sell will not usually require much in the way of instructions, but where they are beneficial we will endeavor to provide them as we can.
For most items listed in the store, we are able to offer a full, complete and manufacturer backed warranty. In many cases, our contact is direct to the maker of the product, so any problems can be solved quickly and without a long, convoluted process. If you find that whatever product you have received does not meet your expectations, contact us with details of your problem and we will do all we can to solve it.
This does not cover normal wear and tear, abuse, misuse or other activities that may contribute to a product failure. If you use the product in a reasonable manner and it does not live up to your expectations then we will do everything within reason to correct the problem.
Once we send something out, we don't want to see it ever again! Fortunately most Japanese products are of excellent quality and we inspect every item before it leaves, but the odd 'dud' may slip through, and if you happen to end up with one of them then we will replace or repair it as quickly as possible at no additional cost to you. We may need the defective product back in some cases, so please do not dispose of it before contacting us.

Lapsed Accounts: In order to keep the Tools from Japan membership roster current, if a Member does not access his or her account for a period of 180 days or more, Tools from Japan may, in its sole discretion, terminate such Member's account. Tools from Japan will endeavor to notify a Member of intent to terminate such Member's account by notice to such Member's provided email address at least 14 days prior to deactivation. If the Member fails to respond to such email notice within 14 days after the day it is sent by Tools from Japan, such Member's account will be terminated as noted above. Therefore, Tools from Japan strongly recommends that all Members keep their accounts and contact data current and in use. While Tools from Japan desires to prevent active accounts from being terminated prematurely, Tools from Japan has no obligation to maintain accounts that appear to have been abandoned. Each Member agrees that failure to access his or her account for 180 days or more conclusively indicates that such Member's account has been abandoned and that the account may therefore be terminated.

Verify Members' Address: Tools from Japan reserves the right to contact a Member via email to verify the accuracy of account information (including the Member's correct name and address) that is needed to provide the Member with the information he or she requested from Tools from Japan.
We hope this wasn't too scary to read, but it does all need to be here so you are aware of what we can and cannot do, will and will not do and what your part of the bargain is too. We also hope that we shall never have to refer to this document for any reason, but we present here because we know that no matter how hard we try, things will not always go as planned.
These terms and conditions are subject to change at any time without prior notice, and it is expected that you have read and understood them before placing an order.
