These are coarse/medium variants of the Gokumyo series, and while at first appearance they may seem to be so unusual as to be completely disregarded, in use their diminutive size cloaks impressive performance, exceptionally long life and unequalled dish resistance. Add in the unusual but eminently practical included base, and what initially appeared to be an 'odd duck' will quickly become a favourite.
In most stones, especially in these coarse/medium grit ranges, there is a balance of speed, dish resistance and service life tempered with maintenance needs, durability and ease of use that is difficult to escape from. One stone will be fast, but dishes more and requires increased maintenance. Another will have good speed and dish resistance, but will sacrifice service life and durability to get it. Remarkably few stones manage to be 'good' in more than one aspect, and barely any manage 'excellent' in more than a single discipline.
So how is it that these stones manage to have 'good' speed, class leading dish resistance, excellent service life, durability and ease of use and are effectively maintenance free and throw in exceptional finish into the deal?
By using only the highest quality abrasive, minimal amounts of durable binder and raising the density of the stone to a nearly water impermeable solid block of 'stone', these stones offer performance that is difficult to comprehend. They just shouldn't work as well as they do.
Suitable for all conventional blade steels, but especially suited to the more simple carbon-type steels.
Supplied with an integral rubber footed, protective base and a dual grit conditioning stone.
