Japanese planes are suited for general/Jack work, dimensioning and smoothing, these planes have the size and mass to get the job done quickly and efficiently.

Most planes presented here are considered to be ready to use 'out of the box' as a general purpose plane, but may require some adjustment to improve their performance when used for smoothing.

Because of their thick, heavy blades and wooden bodies, these planes deliver exceptional results.

These planes may require adjustment with the seasons due largely to the their construction and size whereas the smaller planes need very infrequent adjustment. If you are unfamiliar with Japanese planes or wooden planes in general then I would suggest one of these more economical models to 'cut your teeth' on.
