Hira-kanna - large planes.

Hira-kanna literally translates as 'regular plane', or 'full sized plane'.

These planes are the 'general purpose' kanna and are most commonly thought of as 'kanna' to most wood workers.

Intended to be adaptable to whatever general planing task you have from rough work, dimensioning or final smoothing and finishing, these planes are more than capable.

As Tsunesaburo makes available such a wide variety of blades in a steel to suit any requirement, there are over 20 'families' of planes here, each with their own name and unique set of features. Some of these families are extended, and stretch to kanna that are not actually hira-kanna, but as they share the same basic features as their full sized siblings, they are included here.

For further information about plane sizing, blade and steel specifics and general notes, please consult the About: Tsunesaburo page.

Each plane is available in various widths, and numerous options can be specified so that whatever kanna you desire, it's easy to order. As we order directly from Tsunesaburo, and only then after you place your order, we don't have kanna in a fixed specification 'in stock' so any options you may require really are no trouble. If there is something extra you would like done to your kanna, and you don't see it listed as an option, please contact us and we will make it happen.

(Some kanna include herein are not strictly 'full sized' planes, but are added to their 'family' group. These include the extended range of "Meigoryomo", "Muga", "Tanjyosan" and "Meimon Tsunesaburo" kanna.)
