"Tanjyosan" -Swallow steel-

"Tanjyosan" is a place, and is the namesake of the Tanjyo mountain range in Kobe.

Site of a Buddhist temple, several historical events and where the goddess of Mercury is enshrined, Tanjyosan the place is rather special.

Tanjyosan the kanna is also rather special. It's Tsubame/En (Swallow) steel on kamaji blade is purposely intended for hardwoods, and is completely unsuitable for softwoods. The massive infusion of Tungsten and remarkable amount of Chromium in Swallow steel ensures that the blade is as abrasion resistant as possible, but cannot take the keen edge required for softwoods.

Fitted to a tsutsumi/closed mouth style shiragashi dai and supplied in a paper box, this kanna is made for work that most planes just can't stand up to.

(This particular plane series is available in a 'full range' of sizes and styles and is also available with the special 'uradashi-fuyou' blade back style that does not require 'tapping out' as an option. Some elements of the basic definition may not be present in the additional planes.)
