Previously known as 'Reform grade chisels' these 'Hyakkumanriki'
branded chisels are, simply put, simple!
A soft steel blade body laminated with a flat piece of high carbon
steel means they are not up to the standard of a better Japanese
chisel, but they can and will take and hold
a good edge for a reasonable time.
In Japan, the mention of 'Reform' grade
tools means that they are either built to be abused or to be
effectively disposable. These chisels fit into the latter category,
economical enough to be abused to an early grave but still perform
well enough to keep the craftsperson using them satisfied that they
are of respectable quality.
This particular chisel style with it's
straight lamination line is very common on budget level Japanese
chisels, and similarly constructed chisels are widely available. The
difference between these chisels here and those offered elsewhere is
this.
These chisels are made in Miki city,
Hyogo, Japan by a company that only makes blades, and we make no
secret that these chisels are simple tools made to a price and that
there are better chisels out there, albeit at a higher price.
If you are on a tight budget, but still
want a tool that will not let you down, these chisels may be exactly
what you are looking for.
6mm blade width, 225mm overall length.
