Sigma power ceramic stone, 3F Carbon #700.

This particular stone is something of an anomaly from Sigma Power.

Normally Sigma Power processes natural stones, and makes high quality waterstones in both ceramic and conventional clay based styles.

This stone doesn't fit in either category, and would be difficult to describe if it weren't for the existence of the 'Select II' series stones, which it very closely simulates in both the way it behaves and the way it abrades steel.

In short, this stone positively eats steel, it's always hungry and doesn't care what you feed it. From easy to sharpen white steel/iron laminated blades to the toughest High Speed Steels, this stone cuts fast without any fuss.

It does require soaking, and because the stone is quite friable (sheds spent grit easily, exposing new, sharp abrasive) it is quite messy as well. This also means it might not remain as flat as other stones, but as the Select II, it has often finished it's task before any degree of dishing is apparent or becomes a problem.

If your blades are made from some of the newer wear resistant 'high alloy' steels, this stone will very quickly become a favourite. If your blades are made from more conventional steels, this stone might be put into the category of 'maximum overkill'. It really is that fast.

#700 grit. 205 x 75 x 50mm.
