Conceived as a 'one stone' solution for routine sharpening of knives, this unique pairing of stones meets it's goal with ease.
Normally, a combination stone stays within a certain stone 'family', so that both sides are relatively familiar with each other and offer similar, related performance.
In the case of this particular stone, we here at Tools from Japan along with Suehiro threw that thinking out the window, and decided to match up two stones that offer performance relevant to their required task.
To start, the Cerax #1000 offers rapid cutting in even the toughest steels without excessive dishing or other bad habits. What makes this stone particularly good is that it does this while offering a very smooth sharpening experience, unusual in a stone designed to whip and edge into a suitable shape, if not also a usable edge.
Flip this stone over, and you are presented with a stone that needs little introduction, the Suehiro 'Rika' #5000. Renowned as a smooth, silky and very fast stone it is a favourite of knife sharpeners around the world offering excellent performance in an economical, durable package.
The performance and overall behaviour of these two stones compliment each other wonderfully, and as they are both 'durable' (resistant to permanent water immersion, most chemicals and temperature extremes) neither stone is susceptible to anything they might expect from a frequent or occasional user.
We recommend that in normal use these stones are soaked in water for 5-15 minutes before use, and if they are dried between uses they should be left in a safe location where air may circulate freely to aid drying.
205 x 73 x 50mm (28mm Cerax #1000, 22mm Rika #5000) and designed to be under the weight limit of SAL/Small Packet for economical worldwide shipping.
A great stone for the first time knife sharpener or the seasoned professional.
(Also available as a plain packed pair of individual stones for those who prefer their stones separately.)
