The name 'Senkichi' as a tool brand has existed in one form or another since 1897, and are still going strong.

They primarily offer tools that cater to the professional tradesperson who requires a solid, dependable tool without a high price tag. They also find favour with avid DIY-ers because they represent a lot of tool for the money.

This plane is no exception.

Starting with a full sized soft steel and Yasuki white steel laminated blade with chip breaker fitted to a well proportioned and executed Shiragashi (Japanese white oak) body and ending there too, Japanese planes are a lesson in simplicity.

Unlike smaller, low cost planes that are usually ready to go 'out of the box', this plane does require some adjustment of the body for the plane to function. This is not a flaw, but simply an acknowledgement of the fact that wood does move with seasonal changes, and that the environment where the plane was made will not be the same as where the plane will be used.

Suitable for either general planing (as a Jack plane) or as a smoothing plane.
