'Kakuri' marking gauge, 90mm wedge lock.

¥1,295

Cutting/marking gauges are typically simple tools tasked with a fairly simple task, that is to mark a line a set distance from a board's edge.

However, there are many gauges out there that are far from simple tools.

This is not one of those.

Comprising of only 4 parts without decorative embellishment, this is about as simple as a marking gauge can be. What it lacks in flair it makes up for in utility, because this obviously simple tool just plain works. And what's more, because of it's oh-so simple design, it's also ambidextrous being easily configured for left or right hand operation, without trying to be both at the same time.

True to Japanese tradition, this gauge also uses a blade rather than a pin making this gauge ideal for cross grain marking. This also allows it to cut thinner boards if required.

The Japanese white oak (Shiragashi) body, beam and wedge  are resistant to abrasion (but not immune) and allows the gauge to slide smoothly.

5-90mm body to blade capacity, 93mm x 52mm body (length x height).
