About me.

Hi, my name is Stuart Tierney, also known as ‘Schtoo’ on a few woodworking forums.

I have been living in Japan since February 2002, and got hooked into woodworking after arriving here, mainly out of necessity. Not lack of money, lack of keeping my hands busy. Idle hands are tools of the devil and all that, and in my case it’s true.

I am married (happily!) and have two children, a son, Tomonosuke (Tom) and a daughter, Koko.

This blog will be mainly about woodworking and the tools with which to work wood. As you might suspect, a lot of them will be Japanese. There will also be quite a lot of not-really-woodworking stuff here, but still of interest. There is so much I can write about that I don’t think I will ever run out of things to put up here.

This blog is also part of a website, namely,  toolsfromjapan.com.

The website is planned to offer as much information about Japanese tools as we can find. Not biased (well, not too much) with an emphasis on actually using the tools, not dissecting them and applauding/criticising them.

And yes, we do plan to sell a few there too, again with an eye to using the tools and priced accordingly.

Thanks for reading, and I hope you will visit here regularly.

Stu. :)
